Towards fulfilling the 2016-17 budget announcements, the Ministry of Railways (MoR) flagged off an inaugural timetabled container train operations between the domestic container terminal at Okhla in Delhi and the inland container depot at Whitefield in Bengaluru. To begin with, two pairs of timetabled container trains have been proposed by Container Corporation of India Limited for operating on the Delhi-Bengaluru and Delhi-Chennai routes. In a separate development, also marking compliance with budget announcements, the MoR launched an integrated social media platform on Facebook and Twitter, enabling people to lodge their complaints, make suggestions and even ask for assistance. Further, Indian Railways (IR) has now granted concessions in passenger fares to more than 50 categories of passengers, including physically and mentally challenged people, patients, senior citizens, students, war widows, sports persons, etc.
