Mettupalayam Municipality Underground Drainage Project receives approval from state government

The Tamil Nadu government has approved the implementation of the Mettupalayam Municipality Underground Drainage Project. Sanctioned at a cost of Rs 917 million, the project will be executed by the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board in all three towns that release untreated sewage into the Bhawani river – Kumarapalayam, Bhavani and Mettupalayam. Under this project, an 8 million litre per day (mld) sewage treatment plant (STP) will be set up, sewer pipelines will be laid, commercial connections to 22,000 households will be provided and several manholes will be constructed.
