Karnataka Lake Conservation and Development Authority formed for lake rejuvenation

The Karnataka government has constituted the Karnataka Lake Conservation and Development Authority to tie up with corporate firms for rejuvenation and conservation of lakes under the jurisdiction of urban local bodies (ULBs). The newly formed authority, which replaces the Lake Development Authority, will act as a nodal agency for development of lakes that were under municipal bodies, the Forest Department and the Minor Irrigation Department. The authority has signed an MoU with corporate bodies for the development of lakes in areas under the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike. It will soon take up rejuvenation and conservation works of lakes in the jurisdiction of the Mangalore City Corporation and other ULBs. Corporate bodies could spend funds earmarked for corporate social responsibility for lake rejuvenation.
