Chennai airport plans 1.5 MW solar power plant

Chennai airport will soon have a 1.5 MW solar power plant, thereby saving Rs 80 million in annual power expenses at the facility. The installation of solar panels on the roof of the cargo terminal has been completed. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the project was signed between the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Solar Energy Corporation of India in May 2014. Going forward, the airport plans to expand solar power generation by setting up another 7.5 MW of solar capacity.
