The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has sanctioned funds for the Jammu semi-ring road project and the Srinagar semi-ring road project. Funds worth Rs 14 billion and Rs 18.6 billion have been approved for the 57 km Jammu ring road and the 60 km Srinagar ring road respectively. The central government has asked the Jammu & Kashmir government to prepare detailed project reports (DPRs) and site plans, select areas from which the roads would pass and complete all other requisite formalities before the centre releases funds for land acquisition. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will implement the projects and will bear 100 per cent of the construction cost and 90 per cent of the land acquisition cost. Meanwhile, NHAI has completed the preliminary survey for both projects and will be shortly initiating the process of land acquisition.
