Private airlines will be allowed to bid for operations on loss-making regional routes and claim government subsidy as part of the regional connectivity plan under the National Civil Aviation Policy, 2016. At present, only Air India receives a subsidy for providing connectivity in the Northeast. The policy will be in place soon.
