Cabinet approves liberalisation of spectrum allocated to operators without auction

The cabinet has approved the liberalisation of spectrum allocated to telecom operators without auction. As per the approved rules, operators will have to pay a provisional price for the spectrum as recommended by TRAI while the balance amount will be collected after the auction. Also, the move will enable Reliance Communications (RCOM) to liberalise its spectrum in four telecom circles – Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.
