APTEL upholds SPL’s appeal for the CoD of Sasan UMPP

APTEL has upheld Sasan Power Limited’s (SPL) (a subsidiary of Reliance Power Limited [RPower]) appeal against the CERC’s order regarding the commercial operating date (COD) of the 3,960 MW Sasan UMPP in Madhya Pradesh. APTEL noted that the Western Region Load Despatch Centre acted in an arbitrary manner restricting generation from Unit 3 of the UMPP, which prevented SPL from achieving full load on March 31, 2013 (scheduled date of commissioning). According to RPower, subsequent to APTEL’s judgment, SPL would recover dues of about Rs 8.5 billion from the procurers as well as Rs 2 billion as carrying costs as per the PPAs.
