State-run gas distribution companies object PNGRB’s proposal

A number of state-run gas distribution companies have objected strongly to the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board’s (PNGRB) proposal to end their exclusive rights to distribute gas in their respective cities and declare the existing infrastructure as a common carrier for other players. Some rival companies and gas consumers have, however, supported the move, which would introduce competition and reduce costs for consumers. Players like Indraprastha Gas Limited, Assam Gas Company Limited, Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited, Central UP Gas Limited, Sabarmati Gas Limited, Gujarat Gas Limited, Sanwariya Gas Limited and Bhagyanagar Gas Limited have opposed the proposal by the regulator.
