ONGC gets environmental clearance for drilling 406 development wells in Cambay basin

The Centre’s green panel has given clearance to the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) for its Rs 17.52 billion project involving the drilling of 406 development wells in oilfields in Gujarat’s Cambay basin. The proposed drilling is expected to be undertaken at ONGC’s assets located in Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad and Kheda districts. The depth of drilling will be in the range of 800-2,000 metres. According to the Expert Appraisal Committee, the final environmental clearance to the project will be subject to obtaining prior clearance from the wildlife department, including a clearance from the Standing Committee of the National Board for Wildlife.
