NHPC declines developers’ request to take over HEPs

Developers of hydroelectric projects (HEPs) aggregating over 15,000 MW and entailing an aggregate investment of Rs 1,538 billion have approached NHPC Limited to either take over these projects or form joint operational ventures. These projects are Jindal Power Limited’s 3,097 MW Etalin HEP (Rs 140 billion), 1,800 MW Kamala HEP (Rs 108 billion), and 680 MW Attunli HEP (Rs 27.25 billion); Lanco Teesta Hydro Power Limited’s 500 MW Teesta VI HEP (Rs 50 billion); NTPC Limited’s 6,000 MW Siang Upper Stage I HEP (Rs 1,000 billion); Himgiri Hydro Energy Private Limited’s 300 MW Panan HEP (18.33 billion); Jal Power Corporation Limited’s 120 MW Rangit IV HEP (Rs 16 billion); NTPC and Druk Green Power Corporation’s 770 MW Chamkharchhu HEP (Rs 64.07 bllion); and the 2,560 MW Sankosh HEP (Rs 114.72 billion) in Bhutan. However, NHPC has expressed unwillingness to take over the projects, but it may consider taking over operations of some projects on a chargeable basis.
