TRAI asks RCOM to put Facebook’s Free Basics service on hold

TRAI has asked RCOM to put the Free Basics service of Facebook on hold. In response to this, the operator has submitted a compliance report to the regulator that the service has been stopped. RCOM is Facebook’s sole Indian telecom partner offering the latter’s Free Basics platform. According to Facebook, the platform seeks to provide a set of basic internet services free to its subscribers. However, TRAI is yet to form a view on whether this conforms to the principles of net neutrality.
