NMC receives Centre’s nod for water supply improvement project

The Nellore Municipal Corporation in Andhra Pradesh has received approval from the central government to implement the Nellore Water Supply Improvement Project with financial assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). JICA will provide financial assistance worth Rs 5.6 billion for the project. The project was earlier planned to be undertaken with financial assistance from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation but it was not funded due to some issues. The water supply scheme envisages that 130 million litres per day (mld) of water will be drawn from the Sangam anicut and distributed through a distribution pipeline network of 606 km. Upon completion, the project will meet the drinking water needs of the city for the next 30 years.
