MoCIT to receive 150 MHz spectrum from defence forces

The Ministry of Communications and IT (MoCIT) is likely to receive 150 MHz of spectrum in the 1700 MHz-2000 MHz band from the defence forces by March 2016. According to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Phase I of spectrum harmonisation, which covers six-seven telecom circles, is likely to be completed in three months. Earlier, in January 2015, the cabinet had approved the spectrum harmonisation plan, under which the government earmarked bands for exclusive use of security establishments while making available the remaining spectrum for commercial use.
