Indira Container Terminal commences container handling operations

Indira Container Terminal Private Limited commenced container handling operations with a call from VSL Bahri Yanbu 006 at its offshore berth at the Mumbai Port Trust. The offshore project was awarded on a 30-year operating concession to a joint venture (JV) between Gammon Infrastructure Projects Limited and Dragados SPL of Spain. The first phase was designed to handle 800,000 twentyfoot equivalent units annually and was originally scheduled for completion at the end of 2010. However, in July 2015, the port administration allowed the private operator to use the new terminal for roll-on, roll-off operations due to delays in acquisition of cranes and in the necessary dredging work.
